What is Cupping or Hijama?
Cupping therapy, also known as Hijama (an Arabic term meaning “sucking” or “drawing out”), is an ancient healing practice that has been used for thousands of years across various cultures, including Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Islamic medicine, and Greek medicine. It involves placing special cups on the skin to create suction, which helps stimulate blood flow, release toxins, and promote healing.
During a cupping or Hijama session, a therapist places cups made of glass, silicone, or plastic on specific points of the body. The suction is created either by heating the air inside the cup (fire cupping) or using a manual pump (modern cupping). This suction pulls the skin and underlying tissue upward, which:
Increases blood circulation to the area
Releases muscle tension and knots
Draws out impurities and toxins
Stimulates the flow of energy (Qi or Prana) in the body

What Prophet Say
Hijama, or cupping therapy, holds a special place in Islamic tradition as it was highly recommended and practiced by the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
"Whoever performs Hijama on the 17th, 19th, or 21st day (of the Islamic lunar month), then it is a cure for every disease."
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Book 28, Hadith 3861)
If there is any good in your medical treatments, it is in the incision of the Hijama therapist, a drink of honey, or cauterization with fire."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 71, Hadith 585)
"Indeed, the best of remedies you have is Hijama (cupping)."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 71, Hadith 582)
"Hijama is the most helpful procedure for human beings to cure themselves."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 71, Hadith 600)
